How to Open a Buick Key Fob

Are you having trouble figuring out how to take apart the Buick key fob? That is probably the trickiest part of the process, but it can be easily done. Just follow these directions on how to open a Buick key fob:

How to Take Apart a Buick Key Fob that Has a Metal Key

  • Press the button that pops out the mechanical key. Depending on the type of key fob you have, this may be a chrome rectangle on the back or a round chrome button on the front.
  • If your key fob has a removable metal key, pull the metal key completely out while pressing down on the button. Skip this step if your key fob does not have a removable metal key.
  • If your key fob has a removable metal key, use the metal key to pry open the key fob case. If the key is not the removable type, use a small flat head screwdriver to pry open the case.

How to Open a Buick Key Fob that Does Not Have a Metal Key

  • Use a small flat head screwdriver to pry open the case.
  • Separate the small sides and locate the Buick key fob battery.

How to Replace the Battery in a Buick Key Fob

Lots of our Bartow drivers have been able to replace their key fob batteries following the steps below. But, if you run into any trouble, feel free to talk to the helpful staff in our parts center.

Step-by-Step Buick Key Fob Battery Replacement

  • Take note of which way the positive side (+) on the old battery is facing before you remove it.
  • Use a small screwdriver to pry out the Buick key fob battery, unless the battery is located inside the back cover, in which case you should be able to remove it with your fingers.
  • Insert the new CR2032 battery with the positive (+) side oriented the same way as the old battery.
  • Line up the back cover with the key fob and press it on the key until you hear it click.

How to Program the Buick Key Fob

So, you’ve replaced the battery and now you’re wondering how to program the Buick key fob. The good news is that the key fob does not need to be programmed after the battery is replaced. Just press the start button with the key fob once, and your car should recognize the key.
